Sokar Uthne Ki Dua in Hadith

Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that when the Prophet ﷺ went to bed he would say, “Allahumma bismika amutu wa ahya”, and when he woke up he would say, “Alhamdu lillahil-lazi ahyana ba’da ma amatana wa ilayhin-nushur.” (Sahih al-Bukhari: 6324)

Sleep is called a lesser death in the Quran: Allah takes the souls at death, and the souls of those who have not died during their sleep; He keeps those for whom He has decreed death and sends the others back until an appointed time. (Surah Az-Zumar, 39:42) So waking up is a small resurrection, and the dua thanks Allah for returning the soul and reminds us of the real resurrection.

Second Dua After Waking Up (Tirmidhi)

Roman English: Alhamdu lillahil-lazi ‘afani fi jasadi, wa radda ‘alayya ruhi, wa azina li bizikrih.

Translation: All praise is for Allah, who gave health to my body, returned my soul to me, and allowed me to remember Him. (Jami at-Tirmidhi: 3401)

Dua When Waking Up at Night (Raat Ko Aankh Khulne Ki Dua)

Ubadah ibn as-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: whoever wakes at night and says this, then says “Allahummaghfir li” or makes any dua, it is answered, and if he makes wudu and prays, his prayer is accepted:

Translation: There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. His is the kingdom and His is the praise, and He has power over all things. Praise be to Allah, glory be to Allah, there is no god but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah. (Sahih al-Bukhari: 1154)
