Dua for Baby: Protection, Newborn & Righteous Child (Arabic, Hindi, Urdu)
The Quran and hadith contain several duas for a baby: duas to be blessed with a child, duas for a safe pregnancy and delivery, the dua for a newborn, and the dua the Prophet ﷺ recited to protect his grandsons. On this page you can read each dua for baby in Arabic, Roman English, Hindi and Urdu with translation, with its reference from the Quran or hadith.
1. Dua to Be Blessed with a Baby
This is the dua of Prophet Zakariya (alayhis salam), through which Allah gave him Yahya in old age.
Surah Aal Imran, 3:38
Roman English: Rabbi hab li mil ladunka zurriyyatan tayyibah, innaka sami’ud-du’a.
Translation: My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of prayer.
Dua of Prophet Ibrahim for a Child
Surah As-Saffat, 37:100
Roman English: Rabbi hab li minas-salihin.
Translation: My Lord, grant me a child from among the righteous.
2. Dua for Baby in the Womb (Pregnancy Dua)
There is no specific dua in the hadith for pregnancy. The Quran records the dua of the mother of Maryam when she was expecting, and this is what many women recite:
Surah Aal Imran, 3:35
Roman English: Rabbi inni nazartu laka ma fi batni muharraran fataqabbal minni, innaka antas-sami’ul-‘alim.
Translation: My Lord, I have dedicated to You what is in my womb, so accept it from me. Indeed, You are the Hearing, the Knowing.
Along with this, recite the dua for a righteous child below, and the general dua for ease: Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja’altahu sahla (O Allah, nothing is easy except what You make easy). (Sahih Ibn Hibban)
3. Dua for Newborn Baby
When a baby is born, the Sunnah is to say the adhan softly in the baby’s right ear (Sunan Abu Dawud: 5105; Jami at-Tirmidhi: 1514), and to do tahnik, softening a date and rubbing a little on the baby’s palate, and make dua for the child. Abu Musa (may Allah be pleased with him) said that when his son was born, he brought him to the Prophet ﷺ, who named him Ibrahim, did tahnik with a date, and prayed for blessings for him. (Sahih al-Bukhari: 5467; Sahih Muslim: 2145)
There is no fixed wording, so make dua in your own words. A short dua used for a newborn is:
Roman English: Barakallahu laka fil-mawhubi lak, wa shakartal-wahib, wa balagha ashuddah, wa ruziqta birrah.
Translation: May Allah bless you in His gift to you, may you give thanks to the Giver, may the child reach maturity, and may you be granted his righteousness.
This is a dua of congratulation reported from the early Muslims (recorded by An-Nawawi in Al-Adhkar), said to the parents. The parents reply: Barakallahu laka wa baraka ‘alayk (May Allah bless you).
4. Dua for Protection of Baby (Nazar Se Bachne Ki Dua)
This is the dua the Prophet ﷺ recited over Hasan and Husain (may Allah be pleased with them), and he said that Ibrahim (alayhis salam) used to recite it over Ismail and Ishaq.
Sahih al-Bukhari: 3371
Roman English: U’izuka bikalimatillahit-tammah, min kulli shaytanin wa hammah, wa min kulli ‘aynin lammah.
Translation: I seek protection for you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and harmful creature, and from every evil eye.
For a girl, say u’izuki instead of u’izuka. For two children, say u’izukuma. Recite it morning and evening with your hand on the child’s head.

5. Dua for a Righteous Child (Nek Aulad Ki Dua)
Surah Al-Furqan, 25:74
Roman English: Rabbana hab lana min azwajina wa zurriyyatina qurrata a’yunin waj’alna lil-muttaqina imama.
Translation: Our Lord, grant us from our spouses and our offspring the coolness of our eyes, and make us leaders of the righteous.
Dua for Children to Pray Namaz
Surah Ibrahim, 14:40
Roman English: Rabbij’alni muqimas-salati wa min zurriyyati, rabbana wa taqabbal du’a.
Translation: My Lord, make me one who establishes prayer, and from my descendants too. Our Lord, and accept my supplication.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which dua should I read to get pregnant?
The dua of Zakariya (3:38) and the dua of Ibrahim (37:100) are the two duas from the Quran for being blessed with a child. Recite them in sujood, after salah and at tahajjud, and continue to seek medical help as well; dua and means go together.
Is there a dua for a baby boy?
No dua in the Quran or hadith asks for a boy or a girl specifically. Ask Allah for a righteous, healthy child, as the prophets did, and accept what He gives, because the Quran says He gives daughters to whom He wills and sons to whom He wills (42:49).
Which dua protects a baby from nazar (evil eye)?
“U’izuka bikalimatillahit-tammah” from Sahih al-Bukhari. Also recite Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas and blow gently over the child.
Can I recite these duas in Hindi or English?
Dua may be made in any language outside of salah. Learn the Arabic of the Quranic duas as well, since reciting the Quran carries its own reward.
